Crouch House

Walking up to the Crouch House and seeing it in all of its glory would give any paranormal investigator and/or historian the biggest smile ever. The home was built in the early 1900’s and still had most of its original furniture, fixtures, and wall coverings. It just breathed of the classic ‘haunted house,’ allure. We learned from the current residents of the home that the house belonged to George Crouch Jr. who was a physicist who not only helped start NASA but had also worked with the one and only, Albert Einstein. The whole property and small town it resided in seems to have been bottled into some sort of time capsule, along with the spirits that resided in the time defying dwelling.

Doll_roomThe most activity we experienced throughout the night had to be in the upstairs bedrooms. The air was heavier and felt sealed off from the current day and age. While Sean and I were in the process of setting up the static cams we both had one of the craziest experiences to date of our paranormal careers. I was personally propped up on a ladder mounting one of the IR cams and Sean was helping me position the camera from the floor level. As I was nearing the end of the placement of one of the cameras I felt the sensation of someone walking directly behind me and without looking, I reached back to hand the wrench I was using to Sean. When Sean didn’t grab the wrench, I looked back and saw the face of my teammate in sheer awe and shock intertwined into one. Not to mention, Sean was clear on the other side of the room.  Something that was not of this world had passed between the two of us.

Sean began to try to put it into words what he saw, ‘A tall, shadowy, skeletal figure… walked right by… went into the Nursery Room… right behind you.’ Apparently the spirit wanted to make its presence known to us and had enough energy to manifest the sensation of a human walking between us We knew, before going lights out, it was going to be a good night of investigating.

As we were turning out one of the last light switches in the kitchen downstairs, we heard a large thud and drag of wood against the floor upstairs in one of the rooms belonging to the sons of George Crouch Jr. When we went to check it out a full size, four-poster, wooden bed had shifted at least two feet away from the wall from its original resting place. The owner’s confirmed with us shortly after that this shifting of beds, mirrors changing in angles, and doors closing on their own behalf are regular occurrences in the Crouch home. Sure enough, as we continued our investigation the random ‘bumps in the night’ continued. With all this being said, nothing surmounts to the experience I had with the energy that resided in the nursery.

bed_light_2I was assigned to investigate the still-aired nursery by myself lights out, K-2 in one hand, and EVP in the other. I sat on the antique bed adjusting myself to the lack of light in the room. Out of nowhere I felt he sensation of a cold hand run across my right shoulder, and down my arm. I immediately grabbed my EVP and began my session. As I was asking questions, the sensation occurred two more times. It was so real that I turned twice to make sure there was nobody messing with me. With the IR static cam set up in the nursery, Feanix saw me react and turn. I confirmed to her what I was experiencing and she confirmed my suspicions with a random energy that manifested itself in the form of an orb to the right side of my head. At this point I knew for a fact I wasn’t alone. As I continued my EVP session I began to get a burning sensation in my throat and began to smell smoke. Obviously with nothing on fire in the room or area this also struck me oddly. I began to inquire the spirit about possibly suffocating in a fire or something similar and the sensation grew worse. In my opinion, the entity was trying to convey a message the best it could by recreating the feeling it experienced in their final moments. The air became so hard to breathe in, that I had to exit the room and was a bit shaken by the experience.

I know it’s hard to believe for some that the paranormal truly exists. I’ve always been one to try and take a scientific approach or theorize why something is happening to me. However, sometimes things occur that can’t be explained. The gut feeling and thoughts that race through your mind are just as factual sometimes as something written in ink. I know for a fact the Crouch House is haunted and the residents that lived there still intermingle with the living. It’s establishments, such as the Crouch House, that further my quest to delve deeper into the abyss; in hopes it will stare back.
